CVNT accepts submissions of poetry, fiction, & creative nonfiction from trans writers on a rolling basis. Please send only one submission per genre; do not resubmit until after your submission has been addressed. We request all submissions be pasted into the body of an email sent to
cvntmag[at]proton[dot]me
Please note “SUBMISSION_[GENRE]” in the subject line. In the body of the email, include any relevant biographical info you’d like to provide, or whether you’d like to remain anonymous, & a word count. If your piece requires formatting not possible in the body of an email, please note this in your email. Unless invited by staff to immediately resubmit upon rejection of a submission, please allow a reasonable amount of time before you submit again (say >three months).
Genre-specific guidelines:
Poetry: Send 3-5 polished poems of any style or length up to ten pages to cvntmag[at]proton[dot]me. While CVNT seeks to showcase as many poets as possible, our staff will be highly selective. Priority will be given to work that explores subjects beyond the stereotypical in unique or interesting ways without necessarily relying on either stylistic shock value or overly-starched traditional forms.
Fiction: Send one piece of prose up to 3,000 words or up to three flash prose pieces under 1,000 words each to cvntmag[at]proton[dot]me. Ensure prose is double-spaced, paginated, & in a standard font (sans serif is okay). CVNT staff will likely be turned off by highly-specific or experimental genre work, but will consider any excellent fiction regardless of genre.
Nonfiction: Creative nonfiction should also be double-spaced, paginated, in a standard font, & up to 3,000 words as a single piece or three shorter pieces at less than 1,000 words each. Send your 2am E-cramps confessions, cultural criticisms, secrets, musings, creative reviews of LGBTQIA2S+ books, etc. to cvntmag[at]proton[dot]me. Please note CVNT is not seeking strictly academic nonfiction. While submissions are not required to be exclusively trans-coded in subject matter, priority will be given to pieces that reflect some kind of alignment with the magazine’s stated purpose.
CVNT will consider hybrid work on a case-by-case basis. Please note in your email whether your work should be classified as hybrid. Work which has previously appeared in books, journals, blogs, or periodicals will not be considered. All rights revert to the author after publication, but CVNT requests First American Serial Rights at acceptance; should a contributor later include a piece featured in the magazine in a broader anthology or collection, CVNT requests appropriate attribution of the piece’s original publication on our site. Please allow our volunteer staff up to one year to respond to submissions before querying us about the status of your submission. Thank you!
*CVNT aspires to become a paying market. All donations & contributions will be put toward paying writers & operating the magazine.*
For all other inquiries, please contact cvntmag[at]proton[dot]me & indicate the nature of your communication in the subject line.
